Job summary

Optima Engineering, an employee-owned MEP engineering firm, seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design for mission-critical and data-center projects in the Southeast. The role emphasizes coordination with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring compliant, efficient designs across lighting, power, and fire alarm systems.

The candidate should have a PE in NC or be able to obtain within six months, and 5–10 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5–10 years of experience on Mission Critical and Data Centers projects.
• Registration as a PE in North Carolina or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Input on project viability, assist with proposals, help select the design team.
• Produce schedules, lighting, power, and fire alarm designs, and conduct reviews.
• Coordinate across disciplines and manage final reviews/approvals between disciplines and agencies.
• Assist designers with conformed drawings, submittals, revisions, and align with Project Manager and Construction Administration.

At Optima Engineering, an employee-owned MEP engineering consulting firm, we focus on delivering high-quality mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology design solutions for buildings across the Southeast. Our projects include higher education, municipal, K-12, and commercial facilities. We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team and help us continue to provide thoughtful and efficient designs for our clients.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience on Mission Critical and Data Centers projects
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of North Carolina or ability to obtain your PE in North Carolina within 6 months

Responsibilities

• Provide input on project viability, assist with proposal preparation, and help select the design team
• Produce project schedules, lighting, power, and fire alarm designs, compliance checks and specifications, and conduct reviews
• Conduct interdisciplinary coordination and manage final reviews/approvals between disciplines and agencies
• Assist designers with maintaining conformed drawings, preparing submittals, and issuing revisionsWork in conjunction with the Project Manager, Designers, and Construction Administration Specialist to meet company standards and exceed Client expectations

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

• Very familiar with SKM, Short circuit and Arc Flash Studies SKM or Easy Power
• Commissioning experience in Data Centers
• UPS and back-up generators
• Ability to write Test Scripts and Direct Efforts
• Willing to work some nights and weekends
