Job summary

Optima Engineering, a 30-year-old employee-owned MEP firm, seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer in Charlotte, NC, to lead electrical design for mission-critical and data-center projects across the Southeast.

You will produce lighting, power, and fire alarm designs, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior staff while ensuring project viability and compliance with standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with SKM and arc-flash studies.
• Data center commissioning experience.
• UPS and back-up generators experience.
• Ability to write test scripts and direct efforts.
• Willing to work some nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide input on project viability, assist with proposal preparation, and help select the design team.
• Produce project schedules, lighting, power, and fire alarm designs, compliance checks and specifications, and conduct reviews.
• Conduct interdisciplinary coordination and manage final reviews/approvals between disciplines and agencies.
• Assist designers with maintaining conformed drawings, preparing submittals, and issuing revisions.
• Work with Project Manager, Designers, and Construction Administration Specialist to meet standards and client expectations.

At Optima Engineering, an employee-owned MEP engineering consulting firm, we focus on delivering high-quality mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology design solutions for buildings across the Southeast. Our projects include higher education, municipal, K-12, and commercial facilities. We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team and help us continue to provide thoughtful and efficient designs for our clients.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience on Mission Critical and Data Centers projects.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of North Carolina or ability to obtain your PE in North Carolina within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide input on project viability, assist with proposal preparation, and help select the design team.
• Produce project schedules, lighting, power, and fire alarm designs, compliance checks and specifications, and conduct reviews.

• Very familiar with SKM, Short circuit and Arc Flash Studies SKM or Easy Power.
