Job summary

Motivo seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our tight-knit multidisciplinary team in the United States. You will contribute to electro-mechanical projects with embedded electronics, focusing on motion and control systems, and drive designs from concept through prototype builds.

Ideal candidates have hands-on engineering skills (80%) and mentoring experience (20%), with strong communication and a track record in automotive environments, EVs, or related fields.

Qualifications

  • Six plus years of professional engineering experience.
  • Direct technical involvement on electro‑mechanical projects with embedded electronics.
  • Exceptional communication skills; able to present results and recommendations to internal and external customers.
  • Strong ability to mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Desired work split: ~80% hands‑on engineering and ~20% mentoring/similar.
  • Design experience with motors, motor controllers, power supplies, inverters/converters, and/or power electronics.
  • Prior professional experience with embedded electronics design containing microcontrollers, DSPs, programmable logic devices (FPGA, CPLD), memory, high‑speed signaling, MEMS sensors, etc
  • Strong ability to handle concurrent fast‑paced projects with minimal direction.
  • Development and editing of top‑level system architectures.
  • Experience with a plethora of different sensor types and technologies.
  • Programming experience, especially with embedded C, real‑time operating systems (RTOS), and/or Matlab Simulink Coder.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols like CAN, USB, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, etc
  • Electrical test and debug with industry standard tools (oscilloscope, in‑circuit debug, digital multimeter, etc)
  • Custom PCB design experience from schematic entry and board layout through fabrication, assembly, and test
  • Familiarity and experience with high‑performance vehicles (EV, HEV, race vehicles, Solar Car, Formula SAE, etc), including the design process and components
  • Experience in design and fabrication for automotive environments (extreme temperature, shock, vibration, etc)
  • Generate technical drawings of systems, components, and interfaces
  • Experience with various battery chemistries and related battery management systems
  • Experience with R&D, SBIR, VC, or similarly funded projects and work effort

Responsibilities

  • Hands‑on engineering on electro‑mechanical projects with embedded electronics and motion/control systems.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to top‑level system architectures and technical drawings for components and interfaces.
  • Interface with customers and internal teams to present results and recommendations.
  • Support design for automotive environments including extreme conditions and high‑speed signaling.

Qualifications

  • Design experience with motors, motor controllers, power supplies, inverters/converters, and/or power electronics

  • Custom PCB design experience from schematic entry and board layout through fabrication, assembly, and test
  • Familiarity and experience with high‑performance vehicles (electric vehicles (EV), hybrid electric, race vehicles, Solar Car, Formula SAE, etc), including the design process and components
  • Experience in design and fabrication for automotive environments (extreme temperature, shock, vibration, etc)
  • Generate technical drawings of systems, components, and interfaces
  • Experience with various battery chemistries and related battery management systems
  • Experience with R&D, Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR), venture capital (VC), or similarly funded projects and work effort

  • Base Salary Range: $110,000 – $130,000
  • Salary is dependent on experience, knowledge, and interview performance.
