Job Description Summary

Samsung Austin Semiconductor is seeking an engineer for Electrical Engineering team to safely energize equipment, troubleshoot, meet critical milestones and provide commissioning support with critical power systems.

Role and Responsibilities

Here’s What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide technical ownership for electrical infrastructure, including high/medium-voltage systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, UPS, and emergency power systems.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of system configurations, one-line diagrams, and operational dependencies.
  • Analyze system performance to identify vulnerabilities, capacity constraints, and reliability risks.
Field Technical Support & Troubleshooting

Provide hands‑on engineering support to technicians during commissioning, maintenance, and system restoration. Guide technical activities during abnormal operating conditions and coordinate with OEMs and vendors for specialized support. Implement Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM) and lead structured investigations such as FMEA and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Analyze equipment history and operational trends to develop permanent solutions for chronic failures. Optimize maintenance strategies (preventive, predictive, and condition‑based) to improve MTBF and system availability. Act as the electrical engineering Point of Contact (POC) for various internal organizations (FAB, HVAC, WTR, GCS). Coordinate troubleshooting between facility infrastructure and customer‑owned equipment. Participate in technical reviews for equipment expansions and communicate risks to stakeholders. Provide technical input for preventive/predictive maintenance programs and review procedures based on equipment criticality. Optimize maintenance activities to maximize reliability value. Advise on equipment refurbishment, replacement, and critical spare‑parts strategies. Mentor and coach technicians and engineers through structured training and field knowledge transfer. Drive a culture of proactive problem identification and data‑driven troubleshooting.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
  • [Preferred] Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Reliability Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 7 years of relevant electrical engineering experience within mission‑critical environments, such as semiconductor, industrial, data center, or utility sectors.
  • Experience with industrial electrical power distribution systems and hands‑on expertise in troubleshooting electrical equipment and systems in the field.
  • Experience providing technical support to maintenance technicians, electricians, commissioning teams, or field service personnel.
  • 10 years of experience with industrial power systems, specifically within semiconductor FABs or other high‑availability manufacturing environments.
  • Strong background in supporting medium‑and high‑voltage electrical systems, as well as a proven track record of performing or leading electrical failure investigations and reliability improvement projects.
  • Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and NFPA 70E electrical safety training.
  • OEM‑specific training for major electrical equipment such as switchgear, protective relays, UPS systems, transformers, and breakers.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license and a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent reliability certification.
  • Technical expertise in industrial electrical power distribution across high, medium, and low‑voltage systems, including a deep understanding of protective relays, critical power systems, and power quality analysis.
  • Knowledge in reliability and maintenance methodologies such as RCM, FMEA, and RCA, while maintaining strict adherence to electrical safety codes including NFPA 70, 70E, 70B, and OSHA standards.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills to resolve complex electrical issues and strong technical leadership to collaborate effectively with field personnel and cross‑functional stakeholders.
