Job description

Job Description

An industry leading, multi‑disciplined engineering and design‑build firm is preparing for an important transition. With a long‑standing Principal Electrical Engineer retiring this spring, we are seeking a seasoned Senior Electrical Engineer ready to step into a high‑impact leadership role and help shape the next chapter.

This is not residential. Not commercial retail. Not strip malls and storefronts.

This is industrial power at scale. Chemical plants. Petrochemical facilities. Energy systems. Manufacturing operations where precision matters and downtime is measured in serious dollars.

If you are the kind of engineer who enjoys standing in a control room one day and leading load studies the next, this role was built with you in mind.

You will take ownership of complex industrial electrical projects from concept through execution. You will lead calculations, guide designers and engineers, collaborate across disciplines, and engage directly with clients in the field.

This is a role for someone who wants influence. Someone who wants their name attached to systems that actually power industry.

You will work on:

  • Power, lighting and electrical distribution systems
  • Electrical one‑line drawings
  • Electrical load studies
  • Protective relaying and short‑circuit studies
  • Arc flash analysis
  • Power equipment specification including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, drives, UPS systems
  • Hazardous area classification and industrial wiring practices
  • Control schematics, P and IDs, PFDs, loop diagrams
  • Grounding and lighting systems

You will also serve as a project lead on single discipline projects, estimating hours, defining scope, guiding team members, reviewing drawings, and maintaining client communication.

Field visits are part of the design process. You will occasionally be on site, collaborating with operations teams, checking installations, solving real‑world problems, and ensuring systems perform exactly as designed.

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university
  • 12 to 30 years of industrial electrical engineering experience
  • Experience in chemicals, petrochemicals, polymers, utility, energy or manufacturing environments
  • Strong knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 30, applicable codes, arc flash and hazardous classifications
  • Experience with protective relaying and short‑circuit analysis
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (3D preferred), Revit, Microsoft Office and EasyPower or similar modeling software
  • Comfort reading and developing P and IDs, PFDs and detailed installation drawings
  • Field experience

Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. If you do not yet hold one, you must be willing and motivated to obtain it soon after hire. Support is available to help you get there.

Work Structure

This is a hybrid position based in Akron, Ohio. You will work on site at least three days per week, collaborating directly with a multi‑disciplinary engineering team. Remote‑only candidates cannot be considered.

Relocation assistance may be offered on a case‑by‑case basis.

Some domestic overnight travel may be required.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. H‑1B sponsorship may be available for qualified candidates who currently hold an H‑1B.
