About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support manufacturing operations through troubleshooting, sustaining engineering, product improvement initiatives, and cross-functional technical leadership. This role is responsible for resolving complex electro-mechanical product issues, improving reliability and manufacturability, reducing product costs, and managing component lifecycle risks.
The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on engineering expertise with a deep understanding of electrical systems, PCBAs, and manufacturing environments. This individual will work closely with engineering, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to ensure product performance, quality, and continuity of supply.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Support & Issue Resolution
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for electro-mechanical product failures identified in manufacturing and field environments.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting of electrical systems, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), and integrated electro-mechanical products.
- Support production teams in resolving technical issues to minimize downtime and maintain delivery schedules.
- Partner with quality and manufacturing teams to implement containment actions, corrective actions, and preventive actions (CAPA).
Quality & Reliability Improvement
- Analyze product failures and reliability trends to identify opportunities for design and process improvements.
- Support failure analysis activities, including test development, data collection, and technical reporting.
- Collaborate with design engineering teams to implement changes that improve reliability, manufacturability, and product robustness.
- Identify and execute cost reduction opportunities through component substitutions, design optimization, and process improvements.
- Evaluate alternate components and suppliers while maintaining performance, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in value engineering and cost-reduction initiatives across existing product lines.
Component Lifecycle & Obsolescence Management
- Monitor electronic component lifecycle status and proactively manage obsolescence risks.
- Lead redesign, requalification, and validation efforts when replacing obsolete or constrained components.
- Partner with procurement and product management teams to maintain uninterrupted supply and minimize operational risk.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing partners to resolve technical issues and implement improvements.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
- Maintain and update technical documentation, including schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, and test procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5-10 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a strong focus on PCBA design, manufacturing, testing, and sustaining engineering.
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting electrical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience using laboratory and test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), power supplies, and signal generators.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, technical drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience with failure analysis methodologies and reliability engineering practices.
- Knowledge of component selection, qualification, supply chain considerations, and obsolescence management.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, including PCBA assembly, testing, and product integration.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements such as UL, CE, and RoHS.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting high-reliability products in industries such as aerospace, aviation, automotive, medical devices, or other regulated environments.
- Familiarity with FPGA technologies and/or embedded systems.
- Six Sigma certification or other continuous improvement/process optimization credentials.
- Experience supporting contract manufacturers and global supply chains.
