Job summary

CDM Smith Inc. is seeking a licensed Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead federal infrastructure, water/wastewater, and industrial projects from our California offices (Los Angeles, Irvine, Carlsbad, Rancho Cucamonga, or Concord) under a hybrid work model.

The role blends hands‑on engineering with leadership, requiring a PE license, strong project management, and expertise in distribution systems, power studies, and renewable energy integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer license is required.
• At least 10 years of related electrical engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop basic to complex electrical designs including distribution, power, protection, and gensets.
• Review designs for compliance with applicable regulations and firm standards.
• Perform power system studies using ETAP or SKM Power Tools and related calculations.
• Conduct site investigations to verify conditions and align designs with site requirements.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff; supervise others.
• Assist in preparing proposals and client presentations; engage with clients.
• Publish technical papers and contribute to knowledge management.
