We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our engineering team on a one-year contract. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, implementation, and analysis of electrical systems for new and existing products. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions while supporting product development from concept through production.
This position offers a diverse range of engineering responsibilities, including electrical system design, testing, drafting, prototyping, and technical problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Design industrial control and power distribution systems.
- Specify electrical components including VFDs, contactors, relays, and related hardware.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and wire lists.
- Develop wire harness designs and electrical documentation.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers to create 3D electrical enclosure layouts and cable routing.
- Produce and maintain 2D electrical drawings using AutoCAD.
- Support product development through testing, troubleshooting, and prototype validation.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) within ERP systems.
- Utilize Product Data Management (PDM/PLM) systems for document and revision control.
- Review customer specifications and develop compliant electrical designs.
- Ensure designs meet cost, manufacturability, quality, and safety objectives.
- Identify project risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical guidance to designers and technicians when needed.
- Track project progress and complete assignments on schedule and within budget.
- Participate in cross-functional engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university (Master's degree preferred).
- 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical design.
- Experience creating:
- Electrical enclosure layouts
- Knowledge of electrical components including relays, contactors, VFDs, and control panels.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred).
- Experience using PLM/PDM software (SolidWorks EPDM preferred).
- Strong understanding of analog and digital electrical circuits.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SolidWorks for electrical enclosure layouts.
- Familiarity with PCB design and development.
- Experience using Altium Designer.
- Knowledge of communication protocols including:
- RS232
- RS422
- RS485
- CAN Bus
- Ethernet
- Experience with engineering project management tools.
