Job summary

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Electrical Craftsperson to lead the in‑house electrical maintenance team at Mile End Hospital and Royal London Hospital Retained Estates. You will coordinate with electrical contractors to ensure timely, safe, and compliant delivery of electrical works across the estates.

The role requires driving improvements, maintaining documentation, and providing technical leadership to resolve faults while upholding health and safety standards across staff,

Responsibilities

• Lead the estates electrical team and maintenance contractors to ensure statutory, critical and routine tasks are completed, recorded, and fully documented for the Estates Management Team.
• Support the in‑house electrical team and contractors by ensuring adequate spares and materials are available for efficient completion of works.
• Implement improvement plans where poor performance is identified within the electrical team, escalating concerns to the Estates Supervisor or Estates Manager if progress is not achieved.
• Review completed electrical works to ensure quality, timeliness and cost‑effectiveness, addressing any issues directly with staff or contractors.
• Provide technical support and leadership to resolve electrical faults.
• Promote and uphold health and safety requirements for staff, patients, visitors and contractors through safe systems of work, site inductions, and risk/COSHH assessments.
• Work with the Estates Supervisor or Estates Manager, alongside the BHT contract performance team, to support effective auditing and ensure full compliance in delivering Trust electrical services across in‑house and PFI/outsourced provision.
• Ensure adherence to all relevant legislation, safety alerts, HTMs, NBNs, safe systems of work, approved codes of practice, and associated policies.
