Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Senior Commissioning & Startup Electrical Engineer to lead electrical commissioning, testing, energization, validation, startup, turnover, and operational readiness on major industrial and data center projects across North America.

The role requires strong electrical engineering fundamentals, hands-on commissioning experience, and the ability to work with engineering, construction, vendors, operations, and commissioning leadership to develop and execute strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering, commissioning, startup, operations, maintenance, or industrial project experience.
• Experience supporting commissioning and startup activities for industrial, power, manufacturing, mission-critical, or data center facilities.
• Experience with medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
• Experience with electrical testing, startup, and energization activities.
• Exposure to Functional Performance Testing (FPT) and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
• Strong understanding of electrical system redundancy concepts (N, N+1, 2N).
• Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites across North America.

Responsibilities

• Support planning and execution of electrical pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, testing, turnover, and operational readiness activities.
• Develop, review, and execute commissioning procedures, startup plans, energization plans, test scripts, and turnover documentation.
• Lead electrical testing activities including FWT, SAT, FPT, and IST.
• Support energization planning and execution with readiness reviews, switching plans, risk assessments, and contingencies.
• Validate system performance and ensure design intent and project requirements are met.
• Coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, vendors, OEMs, utilities, and commissioning teams.
• Maintain accurate commissioning records, test documentation, startup reports, and turnover packages.
• Review design documents and vendor docs to support commissioning and startup activities.
• Promote safety culture and ensure compliance with project safety requirements.
