Job summary

Actalent seeks a Senior Electrical Certification & Qualification Engineer to lead evaluation, testing, and UL certification for high-amperage power components used in industrial chillers. You will define qualification strategies, oversee external labs, and coordinate tests while ensuring regulatory compliance.

The role emphasizes component-level work, collaboration with Supply Chain and Regulatory Compliance, and travel to test facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• 10+ years of experience with low-voltage power distribution and protection equipment.
• Direct experience qualifying, testing, certifying, or developing high-amperage circuit breakers, ideally in 100–2000A range.
• Hands-on experience with disconnect switches, fuse blocks, fuse systems, power distribution equipment, motor control centers, switchgear, or similar industrial power equipment.
• Strong knowledge of UL certification processes, standards, and testing methodologies for low-voltage power distribution and protection devices.
• Experience working directly with certification agencies and high-power test laboratories.
• Ability to independently develop and execute certification strategies and detailed test plans.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex topics clearly.
• Expertise in UL certifications and component qualification for circuit breakers and high-power systems.
• Experience coordinating high-power testing programs with external labs.

Responsibilities

• Lead certification and qualification of high-current power devices used in industrial chillers.
• Develop qualification strategies for molded-case/insulated-case breakers, switches, fuses, and related accessories.
• Evaluate alternate-source components for deployment within product platforms.
• Assess risks to UL listings and certifications during substitutions.
• Define paths for non-listed or alternate-source components and international sourcing.
• Interface with UL, certification bodies, and independent test labs.
• Develop and execute test plans to achieve component or system-level certification.
• Interpret UL standards and identify certification requirements for substitutions.
• Support product-specific UL listings and component recognition.
• Define testing requirements and acceptance criteria for high-power equipment.
• Manage external labs, scheduling, and scope while coordinating test activities.
• Provide technical recommendations on qualification feasibility and timelines.
• Contribute to long-term alternate-sourcing strategies with supply chain teams.
