Job summary

Weatherford seeks a Senior Elastomer Chemist to serve as a subject matter expert in elastomeric and thermoplastic materials for oil and gas products. You will support material selection, seal design, supplier qualification, and manufacturing process control for downhole and surface sealing systems in challenging environments.

The role requires 10+ years in elastomer/polymer work, with hands-on qualification to API/NORSOK/ISO standards and experience with high-performance materials such as HNBR,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related technical discipline
• Master's or PhD in Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• Minimum 10 years of relevant elastomer/polymer experience in oilfield/seasoned-service applications
• Hands-on experience qualifying elastomers to industry standards like API/NORSOK/ISO/CMA
• Experience with HNBR, FKM, EPDM, NBR, PEEK and other high-performance materials

Responsibilities

• Lead selection and qualification of elastomers, thermoplastics, adhesives and non-metallic seals for severe-service oilfield applications
• Review formulations and ingredients for impact on mechanical properties and sealability
• Provide material design guidance for O-rings, packing elements, bonded seals, and extrusion-resistant seals
• Develop and execute qualification plans for high/low temperature and pressure environments
• Lead failure analysis and root-cause investigations; propose corrective actions
