Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (EIC) Engineer to lead electrical design packages for Oil & Gas and Utility projects. You will mentor junior engineers, review designs, and coordinate across disciplines with project managers and clients.

This hands-on role requires expertise in electrical calculations, equipment specification, and I&C interfaces. Travel up to 25% is expected, and a PE license is preferred for advancement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 7 years of experience; EPC experience preferred.
• A master's degree can substitute for 1 year of experience.
• Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design, ANSI, and IEEE standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work.
• Demonstrated critical thinking and quantitative problem solving.
• Attention to detail, teamwork, organization, and collaboration.
• Ability to travel; PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of electrical drawing packages: one-line diagrams, area classifications, grounding layouts, lighting plans.
• Review vendor submittals, BOMs, and support equipment procurement.
• Provide technical direction to junior engineers and designers.
• Oversee I&C design packages: instrument lists, loop/ladder diagrams, control panel layouts.
• Mentor I&C team members on panel design and control strategies.
• Support FAT/SAT documentation and field integration planning.
• Lead conceptual designs, execution strategies, and proposal technical portions.
• Coordinate scope development, cost estimating, and schedule planning.
• Perform site walks and participate in risk/safety reviews.
• Serve as liaison for clients and vendors during design and procurement.
