Senior EH&S Specialist — Onsite in Fremont, CA

You are an environmental, health and safety professional with in-depth knowledge of state, federal and international environmental health and safety regulations. As a Senior EH&S Specialist, you will implement industry best practices and serve as the subject matter expert on EH&S matters. You will work with internal departments, external agencies and stakeholders to implement safety processes, procedures, or measures to mitigate risks and promote safe working environments.

How You’ll Contribute

• Develop, implement and maintain environmental, health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with all relevant regulations, including OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA
• Where applicable, develop and implement EH&S training strategies and conduct trainings
• Assist with management of product and process-related chemical elements
• Facilitate a Safety Committee and participate in customer feedback sessions related to installation, maintenance, and safe operations of products, including chemical and wastewater disposal considerations
• Assess potential workplace hazards and risks, and work with Safety Committee to develop strategies and implement safety measures
• Own EH&S documentation such as hazardous waste manifest, MSDS/SDS, handling procedures, storage, recycling, and disposal of biohazardous and hazardous wastes
• Ensure manifesting, packaging, labeling, and loading of medical, biohazardous, and hazardous waste adhere to regulations
• Assist in the development and implementation of all company operations concerning fire, emergency, safety and environmental programs
• Own and maintain inventory and storage of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations and internal policies
• Maintain data for chemical inventory and online MSDS library
• Oversee storage of hazardous waste and materials in compliance with regulations and procedures
• Provide training on EH&S programs (e.g., powered industrial trucks, hazardous waste disposal, wastewater monitoring, new hire safety)
• Ensure compliance and reporting of hazardous materials inventory to outside agencies
• Coordinate incident response and cleanup activities with company resources or consultants
• Serve as liaison between the company and relevant government agencies
• Promote a safe working environment, monitor practices and manage Illness and Injury Prevention and Workplace Violence Prevention plans
• Manage incident and near-miss investigations, identify root causes and ensure conformance
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Biosciences degree and minimum of 5 years of relevant EH&S experience or EH&S Certification with 8–10 years of progressive experience
• First Aid, CPR, AED certified
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA and EPA regulations
• Working knowledge of ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 preferred
• 40-hr HAZWOPER preferred
• Knowledge of international environmental health and safety regulations (e.g., WEEE, RoHS) is a plus
• Working knowledge of handling genetic material and human-derived samples (BSL-1 and BSL-2) is a plus
• Proactive, hands-on, self-motivated, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
• Physical capacity to perform duties (up to 25 lbs lifting where required)

Compensation: This role pays between $105,000 and $120,000 for California, with actual base pay depending on skills, qualifications, experience and location.
