Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Neurophysiology Technician to perform routine and complex procedures to obtain data for diagnosing nervous system disorders across EEG, evoked potentials, or sleep studies.

You will operate EEG, evoked potential equipment, and polysomnography devices, schedule tests, obtain medical information, and maintain accurate records. Requires NB Registration in EEG/EP/PSG and an associate degree; pay range is listed for this position.

Job Description:

Position Summary: Under general supervision, performs routine and complex procedures to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of clinical disorders of the nervous system in at two of the following fields of technical Neurophysiology: Electroencephalograph, Evoked Potentials, or Epilepsy and Sleep.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Operates electroencephalograph and evoked potential equipment to record patient’s brain waves and nervous system response to provide quantitative and objective measures of sensor function.
  • Operates stimulating equipment safely to include a click stimulator, pattern reversal stimulator and somatosensory stimulator (electrical stimulation) for study of various sensory modalities.
  • Analyzes waveforms during testing to detect evidence of brain disorders and sensory dysfunction; plots and labels graphs with identifying information; scores overnight polysomnograms; reviews EEG records, retaining representative portions for microfilming.
  • Schedules patients for electroencephalographic, evoked potential and sleep tests; interviews patients to obtain required medical information; explains procedures, allays fear and elicits cooperation.
  • Records medical history, medications used, test results and identification information o patient’s medical records for review and evaluation by physicians; collects and compiles medical information for use in research project(s).
  • Participates in the collection of normative data designed to refine databases of existing procedures.
  • Assists in the cross training of clinical neurophysiology laboratory staff.
  • Cleans, adjusts and performs routine maintenance and repair on electroencephalograph, evoked potential and video monitoring equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; reorders as required.
  • Maintains liaison with referring physicians to resolve problems and to advise concerning laboratory procedures, techniques and equipment.
  • Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.
  • Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.
  • Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.
  • Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.
  • Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
  • Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Requires education generally acquired through an associates degree in a field of biological or physiological sciences or equivalent experience in a biological or psychological field.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: National Board Registration in one or more of three areas: EEG, Evoked Potential, Polysomnography.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.

Experience: Requires one year of experience in biological or psychological fields related to the diagnosis of clinical disorders of the nervous system.

Pay Range:

$34.13 - $45.93

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geographyof work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
