Job summary

NEW JERSEY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION in Trenton seeks an Associate Director for Communications/Editor to produce and maintain NJEA’s member communications, including the NJEA Review and njea.org, and other publications as assigned.

The role reports to the Director of Communications, leading writing, editing, and publication of news, features, and announcements, and training local affiliates to engage members effectively.

Qualifications

• Excellent writer who can translate complex ideas into clear prose.
• Ability to edit others’ writing and work under deadlines.
• Willingness to learn new skills quickly and enthusiastically.
• Ability to adapt readily to technological change.
• Understanding of NJEA’s mission, goals, and public school system.

Responsibilities

• Ensure NJEA members receive timely, accurate information through NJEA’s communications vehicles.
• Report, write, edit, and publish news, features, and announcements for members and the public.
• Facilitate member engagement using NJEA’s communications platforms.
• Ensure communications advance the interests of NJEA and its members in line with its mission.
• Train local affiliate leaders and members in communications skills.
• Assist local associations with other communications needs as assigned.
• Take on any other tasks assigned by the Director of Communications to advance NJEA’s goals.
