Job summary

Chronicle Books is seeking a creative and entrepreneurial Senior Editor to join our Art & Entertainment Publishing Group. The editor will develop a commercially successful and creatively ambitious list spanning art, design, entertainment, pop culture, visual nonfiction, and innovative gift formats.

You will originate, acquire, and develop 10–14 titles annually, negotiate terms, lead editorial processes, and mentor an editorial assistant and fellow.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of trade publishing experience with a track record of acquiring and publishing.
• Ability to originate and develop commercially viable projects across illustrated nonfiction or gift formats.
• Strong editorial taste and knowledge of art and visual culture.
• Established industry connections and ability to translate opportunities into ideas.
• Excellent contract negotiation, budgeting, and project management skills.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Originate, acquire, and develop 10–14 titles annually across art, design, entertainment, pop culture, humor, visual nonfiction, and innovative gift formats.
• Build and strengthen Chronicle's Art list and identify opportunities.
• Negotiate deal terms and lead editorial process from acquisition through publication.
• Represent Chronicle Books at industry events and mentor staff.
• Collaborate across teams to align strategy with company goals.
