Job summary

Chronicle Books in San Francisco seeks a Senior Editor to lead the Art & Entertainment publishing list, developing 10–14 titles annually across art, design, entertainment, and visual nonfiction. The role emphasizes both editorial craft and a strong commercial instinct within a design-forward team.

The position requires 5–7 years in trade publishing, excellent editorial judgment, and the ability to build relationships with authors and industry partners while negotiating contracts and guiding

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–7 years of trade publishing experience with a strong record of acquiring, editing, and publishing successful books and/or gift products.
• Ability to originate and develop commercially viable and creatively ambitious projects across illustrated nonfiction, art, entertainment, or novelty formats.
• Established relationships across publishing and relevant creative communities.

Responsibilities

• Origin, acquire, and develop approximately 10–14 titles annually across art, design, entertainment, pop culture, humor, visual nonfiction, and innovative gift formats.
• Identify emerging cultural trends and expand Chronicle Books' Art list.
• Negotiate deal terms and lead editorial process from acquisition through publication.
• Mentor and support the editorial assistant and editorial fellow; represent Chronicle Books at industry events.
• Contribute ideas to broader category and publishing-group strategy, championing a diverse, commercially minded vision.
