Job Description

Insight Editions is searching for an experienced, enthusiastic, and collaborative EDITOR to join the Lifestyle division, which publishes a variety of formats including cookbooks, craft, mind/body/spirit, and adult coloring books. For the right candidate, a SENIOR EDITOR role will be considered. The Insight Editions publishing team is enthusiastic about the licensing brands we represent and committed to creating content that connects fans and readers with the most fun and innovative pop culture books in the country. In this position, you will assist in acquiring books and will manage high volume and high visibility projects throughout the entire editorial process. In this role, you will work closely with in-house design, production, sales, and marketing teams to successfully shape, shepherd, and launch innovative product releases. At least 3-5 years of recent experience editing books is essential. Experience with licensed publishing is a plus. Qualified applicants must be detail-focused and able to manage multiple deadlines, expectations, and projects while collaborating closely with authors and other freelancers. We are looking for an accomplished editor who is enthusiastic about pop culture.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Manage 12-18 projects per year from start to finish
• Research industry trends and develop new book concepts and formats (a deep familiarity and appreciation for the subject matter is a plus)
• Work closely with editorial, production editorial, design teams, and all creative service teams to ensure projects stay on or ahead of schedule
• Experience building P&Ls and managing projects at or under budget
• Collaborate with design team on design aesthetics, illustrations, and photography for all projects
• Develop and foster a close working relationship with authors, agents, and freelance partners
• Own book positioning, including tip sheet copy and cover copy
• Consult with sales and marketing, overseeing the development of marketing collateral to supply necessary materials for long lead media and sales and marketing schedules

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Exceptional editorial and project management skills
• Knowledge of and passion for pop culture
• Track record acquiring books with commercial appeal
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage resources across multiple projects
• Negotiation skills and contract knowledge
• Initiative-taking, productive, with strong organizational skills
• Sense of humor preferred
