Role Overview

At Huntsman, we are currently looking for a Senior Ecotoxicologist to support our Global EHS Division. In this role, you will provide expert advice across Huntsman businesses by applying your professional judgement in ecotoxicology, exposure science and regulatory compliance. You will support the development and registration of Huntsman products by using hazard and exposure data to conduct environmental risk assessments, support evaluation and authorization processes, and ensure our products remain compliant with global regulatory requirements.

This position is open in multiple European locations: United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany. Remote work is an option, and due to the global scope of the role, travel of up to 20% may be required.

Role Responsibilities
  • Support Huntsman divisions with environmental hazard and risk assessment expertise across all stages of product development, including R&D of new chemicals, products, markets and uses.
  • Apply knowledge of global regulatory requirements, including TSCA, REACH, Canada, Korea and China, and collaborate with regulatory specialists to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor external ecotoxicology and environmental fate studies, ensuring the appropriate laboratory selection in line with internal and external guidelines.
  • Use in silico tools such as QSAR and read-across for screening, prioritization and, where appropriate, regulatory endpoint data submission.
  • Prepare and support dossier submissions in IUCLID and other relevant formats, including read-across approaches for environmental fate and ecotoxicity endpoint data requirements.
  • Act as the technical lead for ecotoxicology-related issue management, substance defense and advocacy strategies with regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain expertise in ecotoxicology, environmental fate and risk assessment, keeping up to date with relevant regulations, legislation and emerging environmental hazard issues.
  • Represent Huntsman in industry consortia and trade associations, actively participating in meetings and sharing relevant insights with internal stakeholders.
Experience and Competencies
  • Minimum Qualifications: Advanced degree, Master or PhD, with 10 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an international company in the chemical or pharmaceutical sector, or at a contract research organization.
  • Extensive applied experience in regulatory ecotoxicology, risk assessment and defense of self-classification and labelling under GHS and CLP.
  • Knowledge of ecotoxicological and environmental fate methods and guidelines, as well as the use of in silico tools, QSARs and read-across.
  • Extensive experience with EU REACH, TSCA and Canada chemical registration.
  • Practical experience with relevant software tools such as OECD QSAR Toolbox, IUCLID, CHESAR and easyTRA.
  • Experience with consortia and trade association work.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to work with colleagues globally in a multicultural environment and in a hybrid setting is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing teams of scientists.
  • Professional certification as an ecotoxicologist or environmental scientist is a plus.
  • Practical experience with China and Korea chemical registration is a plus.
  • Previous environmental laboratory experience on environmental safety assays is desirable.
