Job summary

Volkert is seeking a Senior Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer to support the Mid Atlantic Region, based in Springfield, VA or Virginia Beach, VA. The candidate should have 10+ years of drainage/water resources experience for transportation projects and possess a P.E.

licensure. The role involves data analysis, design of stormwater systems with OpenRoads Designer and other software, hydrologic/hydraulic analysis, permits, and collaboration across disciplines while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering required with PE licensure; 10+ years in drainage/water resources for transportation projects.
• Proficient with OpenRoads Designer and drainage software (StormCAD, PCSWMM, PondPack, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS).
• Strong collaboration across disciplines and mentoring of junior staff.
• Willingness to pass pre-employment drug screen and hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data for project plans and reports.
• Design stormwater and storm drain systems using relevant software.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation projects.
• Prepare permits with local and state agencies.
• Assist with project scope and cost estimates and schedules.
• Oversee design activities and mentor staff across teams.
