Job summary

NCS Engineers is an experienced water, wastewater, and civil engineering design firm with offices across the United States. We provide a wide range of civil, water, wastewater, environmental, electrical design, and research-related services to public agencies and private industry clients.

We are seeking a senior drainage engineer to lead hydrologic and hydraulic studies, prepare and seal drainage reports and plans, mentor engineers, and coordinate with project managers to deliver complex

Responsibilities

  • Prepare/review drainage calculations, hydrology studies, and drainage design plans.
  • Lead hydrologic and hydraulic studies using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PC-SWMM, SRH-2D, and other modeling software.
  • Develop/seal drainage reports, FEMA LOMR/MT-2 submittals, and drainage design plans.
  • Perform watershed-scale flood risk analysis, inundation mapping, and stormwater conveyance/detention design.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop engineers/EITs, including assigning work, priorities, monitoring performance, and providing technical guidance and quality control.
  • Manage staff workload and resources to support project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and departmental priorities.
  • Support and/or lead grant funding efforts, including FEMA BRIC, CDBG-MIT, GLO, and flood bond initiatives.
  • Develop drainage mitigation strategies, detention/retention facilities, storm sewer systems, and flood risk solutions considering cost effectiveness and constructability.
  • Execute public-sector projects (e.g., HCFCD, SJRA, counties) and private land development entitlement projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and CAD staff to integrate drainage systems with grading, roadway, and utility designs.
  • Conduct site visits and interpret/apply local, state, and federal drainage design standards and permitting requirements.
  • Review staff work for technical accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with company and jurisdictional standards.
  • Interface confidently with floodplain administrators, review authorities, public stakeholders, clients, and major developers.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and ensure compliance with company standards and quality-control procedures.
  • Participate in proposal development, scope writing, project planning, client presentations, and business development activities.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
