Job description

Our client is seeking two experienced .NET contractors to modernize a large, legacy Classic ASP application. The existing system is maintained by a third-party vendor who will continue support after the upgrade but does not have .NET expertise. The selected contractors will be responsible for upgrading and modernizing the application and handing it off to the vendor for ongoing maintenance.

This application supports policyholders accessing a secure portal, as well as administrative functionality that manages user permissions and access. There is very little documentation so the developer will need to figure out how the system works and the best way to migrate it.

Key Responsibilities:

• Upgrade and modernize a large Classic ASP website into a modern architecture
• Convert the existing application into three web applications and two APIs
• Migrate functionality from Classic ASP to C# / .NET (Core)
• Build and support policyholder portal features and administrative access management
• Work closely with Scrum teams and technical stakeholders
• Collaborate primarily with the technical team; limited direct business interaction
• Prepare the application for hosting in the cloud (AWS or Azure)
• Support knowledge transfer to the maintaining vendor post-upgrade

Technical Requirements:

• Strong experience upgrading Classic ASP to .NET / .NET Core
• 13+ years hands-on experience with .Net technologies, preferred recent experience with C# (.NET 8.0+)
• C# 10 will be used on this project
• Experience modernizing legacy systems and improving application architecture
• Experience with on-prem to cloud migrations (AWS and/or Azure preferred)
• Familiarity with modern development practices and Scrum teams

Preferred Experience

• Prior work on large-scale legacy application migrations
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or regulated environments a plus but not required
• Currently on-prem; future state will be cloud-hosted (AWS or Azure)
• Hybrid schedule: onsite in Cary, NC two days per week (Tuesday and Thursday)
