Job summary

Socket.dev seeks a senior Database Engineer to own the design, performance, security, and integrity of the MEDXS/MEDEX database tier. The role covers Oracle and SQL Server, enforcing HA/DR, encryption, and audit readiness while keeping theater and enterprise repositories synchronized.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
• 8+ years of database administration/engineering experience.
• Professional DBA certification (Oracle Certified Professional or MS SQL Server credential).
• Experience with large-scale, highly available DoD healthcare databases.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance and IT-I designation.

Responsibilities

• Administer production, test, development and DR DBs (Oracle and SQL Server).
• Design logical/physical DB architecture: schema, indexing, constraints.
• Engineer HA/DR: Data Guard, RAC, Always On, replication and failover.
• Own backup/recovery engineering and recovery testing.
• Perform advanced performance tuning and SQL optimization.
• Implement DISA STIGs, encryption, auditing and RMF/HIPAA controls.
• Plan patching, upgrades, and migrations with rollback plans.
• Move data between theater and enterprise repositories (ETL/ELT).
• Review change scripts and maintain schema baselines.
• Monitor health, capacity, and provide tech-refresh guidance.
• Provide on-call support for incidents and contribute to incident reviews.
• Create and maintain database documentation and runbooks.
