Position Overview

Leidos is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer in the Allentown, PA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering.

Travel

While the position offers remote‑working capabilities, candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Allentown, PA. Selected candidates are expected to attend in‑person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Pennsylvania on an as‑needed basis.

Responsibilities
  • Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
  • Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready, using customer GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of work assigned.
  • Perform functional tasks, planning, and/or customer follow‑up.
  • Analyze scope of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
  • Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high‑quality standards in client design deliverables.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments; develop work permit, easement, and ROW applications.
  • Be comfortable in both field and office settings; may require local or regional customer‑site visits to collect field data for work package development.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience, either with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must hold or be able to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Some prior experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
  • Ability to provide your own reliable transportation, as some local or regional customer‑related travel is anticipated (job‑related travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Providing estimated costs, development of a Bill of Materials, and calculating the Cost of Installation and Asset Cost (CIAC).
  • Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult.
  • Experience with work management software and job estimating software.
  • CAD or MicroStation – performing Electrical Distribution Design.
  • Experience in providing Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for Design Projects.
  • High‑level organization and project management skills.
  • Ability to train entry‑level resources and create process documents.

Pay Range

Pay Range $73,450.00 – $132,775.00. This pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors are considered when extending an offer.
