Job summary

Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers & Designers in the Eastern PA region who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. This role focuses on delivering high-quality design work for Leidos electric utility customers, leveraging GIS tools, structural analysis, and field data collection.

The position offers remote-working capabilities with a commutable distance to Eastern PA; in-person meetings and assignments within Pennsylvania may be required as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience and proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
  • Own reliable transportation for local/regional visits; travel reimbursed at IRS-approved rates.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
  • Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make-Ready using GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work.
  • Perform functional tasks, planning, and/or customer follow-up.
  • Conduct scope analysis, maintain schedule adherence, and advocate client priorities.
  • Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high-quality standards.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
  • Collect field data through local or regional customer-site visits as needed to support design development.

Job Overview

Distribution Engineers & Designers in the Eastern PA region who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. This role focuses on ensuring high quality design work for Leidos electric utility customers, working directly with clients and leveraging GIS tools, structural analysis, and field data collection.

Travel & Work Arrangement

This position offers remote-working capabilities; candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Eastern PA. Availability for in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Pennsylvania on an as-needed basis is required.

Background Requirements
  • 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience and proven proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
  • Own reliable transportation for local/regional customer visits; travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
Additional Relevant Experience (Optional)
  • Providing estimated costs, developing a bill of materials, and calculating CIAC.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult.
  • Experience with work management software and job estimating software.
  • Knowledge of CAD or MicroStation for electrical distribution design.
