Job summary

Discount Tire is seeking a Principal Distribution Center Maintenance Technician to lead our distribution center maintenance strategy and drive improvements in service levels. You will oversee maintenance of conveyors, MHE, and facility infrastructure, while coordinating with vendors and internal teams to reduce downtime and optimize asset performance.

The role requires hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, and industrial electrical systems, plus strong leadership to mentor staff and execute

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 7+ years combined experience in material handling, automation, manufacturing, supply chain, process improvement, and/or distribution in an omni-channel environment.
  • Experience with distribution center startups preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in developing and managing preventative maintenance programs preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Six-Sigma/LEAN mindset preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for team members.
  • Partner with vendors to install, commission and maintain conveyor systems.
  • Manage compliance to site SOPs.
  • Oversee inspection, maintenance, and repair of conveyors, MHE, and building infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and repair conveyor components including motors, gearboxes and drives.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, control panels, wiring, and other industrial electronics.
  • Maintain forklifts and other MHE; coordinate specialized repairs.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to improve reliability.
  • Develop preventive-maintenance schedules based on OEM guidance and usage.
  • Use CMMS to create, assign, prioritize, document, and close work orders.
  • Monitor PM completion and address overdue tasks.
  • Analyze CMMS data for failure trends and asset risks.
  • Create maintenance reports and communicate equipment health to leadership.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis on major failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate asset records and manuals.
  • Support building systems and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools.
  • Coordinate contractors and vendors; ensure quality and safety.
  • Respond to breakdowns and disruptions with prioritization.
  • Plan maintenance with Operations and Safety to minimize disruption.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and electrical-safety standards.
  • Identify opportunities for reliability improvements and asset replacement.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, testing of new equipment.
  • Provide training to maintenance staff and operators.
  • Maintain clean, organized maintenance areas.
  • Participate in emergency-response and after-hours support.
  • Lead best-practices to build a high-performing team.
  • Act as role model for company values and competencies.

The Principal Distribution Center Maintenance Technician plays a vital part of the Distribution and Logistics organization as we transform our supply chain to support the rapid growth of the company. This position serves a key role in leading our distribution center strategy, execution of key performance indicators, and driving improved service levels to our stores and customers. This role will support the startup of new multi-channel facility along with the development of new processes to leverage new best in class systems.

Salary Pay Range: $75,381-$101,985/year
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for team members; adhere to safety programs, procedures, and policies
  • Partner with key vendors to facilitate the installation, commissioning and maintenance of our conveyor system
  • Manage compliance to the processes outlined in the standard operating procedures at the site
  • Oversee the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of conveyor systems, material-handling equipment (MHE), and building infrastructure
  • Diagnose and repair conveyor components, including motors, gearboxes, drives, sensors, controls, electrical circuits, and mechanical assemblies
  • Troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable-frequency drives (VFDs), control panels, wiring, and other industrial electronic systems
  • Maintain forklifts and other MHE, coordinating specialized repairs and vendor support when required
  • Perform and document preventive and predictive maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and minimize unplanned downtime
  • Develop and maintain preventive-maintenance schedules based on manufacturer recommendations, equipment condition, operating hours, and business criticality
  • Use the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to create, assign, prioritize, document, and close work orders accurately and on time
  • Monitor PM completion and compliance, identify overdue or recurring work, and take corrective action to maintain established performance targets.
  • Analyze CMMS data to identify failure trends, recurring issues, asset risks, repair costs, parts consumption, and replacement needs.
  • Create regular maintenance reports and communicate equipment health, downtime drivers, PM compliance, emerging risks, and recommended actions to leadership
  • Conduct root-cause analysis on significant or repeat equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions
  • Maintain accurate asset records, equipment histories, technical documentation, manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures
  • Support the maintenance of building systems and infrastructure, including dock equipment, doors, lighting, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, fire-protection interfaces, and other facility assets
  • Maintain an organized inventory of critical spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies, establishing appropriate minimum and maximum stock levels
  • Coordinate contractors, service providers, and equipment manufacturers while ensuring work quality, safety, cost control, and timely completion
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and operational disruptions, prioritizing repairs according to safety, customer impact, and operational criticality
  • Partner with Operations and Safety leaders to plan maintenance activities that minimize disruption and support safe, reliable throughput
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures, electrical-safety requirements, manufacturer specifications, and all applicable company and regulatory standards
  • Identify and recommend reliability improvements, equipment upgrades, capital repairs, and asset-replacement priorities based on performance data and lifecycle condition
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, testing, and modification of new conveyor, MHE, automation, and facility equipment
  • Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to maintenance personnel and operational team members on equipment care, safe operation, and basic troubleshooting
  • Maintain clean, safe, and orderly maintenance areas while ensuring tools and equipment are properly inspected, stored, and controlled
  • Participate in emergency-response and after-hours maintenance support as business needs require
  • Support training for key users on material handling equipment
  • Lead and execute best practices to promote team member engagement and enable a high-performing workforce to contribute to the company's strategic growth and business objectives

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED

Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.
