SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks an Associate Laboratory Director (ALD) for the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL). The ALD provides strategic, scientific, and operational leadership, aligning SSRL with SLAC’s mission and coordinating with Stanford University and DOE to advance photon-science programs and user operations.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
• Distinguished research record in synchrotron radiation and/or accelerator-based science.
• Experience crafting strategy and generating research funding across disciplines.
• Leadership and management of a complex mission-driven R&D organization (~$10–100M/year).
• Experience leading high-performing scientific and operational teams.

Responsabilités

• Provide leadership, management, and strategic vision for SSRL operations and programs.
• Develop new science programs and funding channels with federal agencies and other sources.
• Identify and grow staffing and infrastructure capabilities to execute SSRL strategy.
• Drive directorate planning and align with Laboratory-wide goals.
• Engage with user community, advisory committees, Stanford, DOE, and external labs.
• Oversee capital upgrades, safety, and environmental compliance.
• Represent SLAC/SSRL in national and international forums.
