Director/Senior Director, Subject Matter Group (SMG)

Location: Remote (USA)

Type: Full Time

Hours: 40 hours/week

Reports to: Global Head of Content Competency

LearningMate is seeking an experienced professional to lead and scale our global Skill Group of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). This high-impact opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives in complexity, understands market trends in education, and is passionate about shaping effective talent models for global education content and service delivery.

What You’ll Do

  • Maximize SME resource utilization. You will build and manage a global cohort of SME’s across a wide range of subjects, supporting content creation for K-12, Higher Education, and Corporate courses.
  • Forecast SME demand based on education market trends, institutional hiring behaviors, and anticipated needs.
  • Source and onboard talent across all learner levels, spanning regions such as India, the US, South Africa, the UK, the Philippines, and more.
  • Optimize cost efficiencies by negotiating competitive rates, and intelligently sourcing/managing these resources across diverse markets.
  • Play a pivotal role in strategic planning, driving innovation in EdTech. Create and implement a global roadmap to anticipate future SME demand and drive proactive hiring.

About the Work

The Subject Matter Group focuses on digital learning and content services. This role sits within the Content/EdTech Competency department and is pivotal in reshaping how LearningMate acquires, manages, and scales SME talent. You will collaborate closely with senior leaders across delivery, presales, sales, and project teams to transform our sourcing function into a strategic, globally coordinated initiative. This work has a direct impact on project quality, cost efficiency, and LearningMate’s ability to remain competitive in an evolving EdTech market.

Who You Are

  • You have 12-15 years of experience in SME management, instructional design leadership, client management, academic services, or a similar field.
  • Your background includes digital learning instructional design, curriculum development, or e-learning.
  • You have experience building SME teams or networks in global or multi-region environments.
  • You have demonstrated success in forecasting SME needs and managing large-scale resource networks.
  • You possess a strong understanding of global cost structures and pricing dynamics across regions such as the US, UK, India, South Africa, and the UK.
  • You have proven experience in the cross-utilization of SME resources and demand forecasting.
  • You have exceptional analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the EdTech industry and familiarity with digital learning trends
  • Experience working across both K–12 and Higher Education learning domains
  • Firsthand experience as a SME, such as content development or academic product creation
  • Graduate or Master’s degree in education, STEM subjects, instructional design, business, or a related field
