Career Summary
The American Nurses Enterprise (ANE) is seeking to hire a Senior Director, Research and Quality lead and support a highly skilled, high-performing team of up to five direct reports.
The Senior Director, Research and Quality provides strategic leadership for the Institute for Nursing Research and Quality Management, advancing enterprise-wide research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice initiatives. This role leads the development and execution of long-term goals, operational priorities, and cross-functional strategies that strengthen program outcomes and support the American Nurses Enterprise’s mission, values, and strategic objectives. The Senior Director oversees a high-performing team responsible for quality improvement, customer support, data collection, risk assessment and management, training recordkeeping, and quality assurance standards. This leader partners with nursing research leaders, nursing professional organizations, nursing faculty, and other health professionals to coordinate research efforts and promote alignment across the enterprise. The position also provides executive oversight of ISO 9001:2015 accreditation standards, quality management systems, policies and procedures, compliance requirements, and risk mitigation practices. In addition, the Senior Director develops the annual budget and operating plan, monitors program performance, evaluates outcomes, and reports programmatic updates and evaluation findings to senior leadership and entity-level boards as requested.

What You Will Do
  • Oversees and develops annual departmental budget, manages finances and meets revenue/budget goals.
  • Authorizes expenditures based upon the approved budget and existing authorization-level guidelines. Strives for on-budget financial performance; develops necessary systems for tracking and review.
  • Leads institute strategy and annual goal planning in alignment with organizational strategic plan
  • Collaborate with other enterprise teams to develop strategic research priorities.
  • Hiring and performance management of individuals and teams
  • Coordinates Research Advisory Council made up of external research subject matter experts
  • Oversees the planning and facilitation of the annual Research Symposium
  • Develops collaborative relationships with external entities such as other professional credentialing organizations, professional nursing and research associations, governmental entities, and academic centers to broaden the reach of institute activities.
  • Establish and sustain strategic partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and policy stakeholders to advance collaborative research and oversees all ANE commissioned research.
  • Oversees precepting/practicum program at ANE
  • Assumes leadership responsibility for all aspects of the Research and Quality programs, including the planning, organization, administration, and evaluation of program activities. Effectively interfaces Research Program activities with the needs, goals, and objectives of the ANE.
  • Manages recruits, supervises, trains, and evaluates staff in conjunction with ANCC leadership goals and personnel policies. Establishes and maintains the expertise, knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements for Research Program staff members. Ensures staff is equipped to develop, implement, and manage current and future products and services essential to support ICR and its initiatives in the most effective, efficient, and ethical manner. Maximizes productivity and quality by establishing a positive, inclusive team environment
  • Develops collaborative relationships with external entities such as other professional credentialing organizations, professional nursing and research associations, governmental entities, and academic centers to broaden the reach of institute activities.
  • Authorizes expenditures based upon the approved budget and existing authorization-level guidelines. Strives for on-budget financial performance; develops necessary systems for tracking and review.
  • Oversees the Quality Management Department including responsibility for ISO certification, quality improvement, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Job Scope Responsibilities
  • Revenue: ~ $150,000 (commissioned research studies)
What You Bring To The American Nurses Enterprise
Education
  • Doctoral Degree (Ph. D.) or equivalent, or more than ten years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Related Work Experience
  • Ten (10) years leading or coordinating research, quality improvement and quality assurance work. Research work experience including oversight of research priorities, contracting, and commissioned research, including involvement with multiple aspects of the research process
  • Five (5) years management experience in a leadership role.
Certificates, Licenses And Registrations Required
  • PhD required in nursing, social/behavioral sciences, or similar field
  • Licensure: Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the U.S.
  • Research or Quality Improvement certification required within 2 years of hire
Computer Skills Required
  • Knowledge and skills using MS365 suite (Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Survey tool management
  • Familiarity with statistical software and/or data management programs
Other Skills Required
  • Experience in quality management systems, preferably with expertise in implementing regulatory quality requirements
  • Nursing or healthcare research experience preferred
  • Survey design

  • Publication experience in peer reviewed journals
  • Strong project management skills
