Job summary

AvalonBay Communities, in partnership with Vivmark Residential, seeks a Senior Director of Development to lead sourcing, planning, entitlement, and execution of multifamily and mixed-use developments. The role focuses on pursuing opportunities, evaluating feasibility, and guiding projects from concept to stabilization.

Qualifications

• Strong financial modeling and investment analysis skills.
• Demonstrated success navigating entitlement processes and public approvals.
• Exceptional relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with senior leaders, external stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
• Experience independently sourcing, structuring, and executing complex real estate transactions is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify and pursue development opportunities within target markets.
• Evaluate project feasibility including financial analysis, entitlements, and market dynamics.
• Lead development through planning, entitlement, design, approvals, construction, and stabilization.
• Prepare and present investment recommendations to senior leadership and approval committees.
• Build relationships with municipalities, consultants, landowners, and community stakeholders.
• Lead cross-functional teams across Development, Construction, Design, Asset Management, Operations.
• Negotiate with landowners and partners to advance project objectives.
• Manage budgets, schedules, consultants, and development risks.
• Represent Vivmark Residential at public meetings and industry events.
