Job summary

MP RPO’s client, a national nonprofit focused on Decision Education in K-12, seeks a Deputy Director of Public Policy, Legislative Engagement to lead state and national lobbying and policy initiatives. The role reports to the Director of Public Policy and collaborates across teams to advance education policy priorities.

The position requires 8+ years in legislative advocacy, with travel 30–50 percent, and offers a hybrid schedule with an on-site office in Bala Cynwyd, PA.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive experience leading legislative advocacy, public policy formulation, and lobbying initiatives, with a clear focus on the education sector.
• Deep expertise in legislative processes, state-level education governance, and public K-12 financing structures.
• Experience managing complex cross-sector initiatives, public policy campaigns, and education policy lobbying initiatives.
• Experience using a CRM system.

Responsibilities

• Lead implementation of lobbying strategies in partnership with the Director of Public Policy, cultivating relationships with governors' offices, state education authorities, and relevant think tanks and coalitions.
• Monitor, analyze, and influence policymaker activity and legislation at the state and regional levels.
• Draft legislative memoranda, policy memoranda, and legislator education materials; translate complex bills into actionable briefs.
• Engage Policymaker Fellows in design and implementation of legislation and pilots with the Senior Manager, Public Policy.
• Manage relationships and contracts with retained lobbying firms in key states.
• Build regional policy and advocacy plans with the Director of Public Policy and partners.
• Support OKR development and align public policy activities with communications.
• Track staff engagement in Salesforce, Wrike, and other tools.
