Job description

Location: Candidates may live in the northern suburbs of Chicago or commutable distance to Milwaukee, WI or Charlotte, NC.

Scope of leadership role

The Senior Director, Operations is responsible for leading the Commercial Gearing Business Unit (~$350M in sales) within the ~$725M Gearing Division of Regal Rexnord's Industrial Powertrain Solutions Segment.

Reporting to the VP/GM of Commercial Gearing, this critical role will both create and drive a growth-focused operations strategy while leading operations across multiple plants located in the United States and Mexico with an execution mindset, including the discipline of SQDCG (safety, quality, delivery, cost-competitiveness, growth) and daily management to allow the business to grow top line revenue growth and bottom-line profitability.

The leader will develop and implement long and short-term strategic plans to meet Division Targets to Improve (TTIs), drive significant plant Key Performance Indicator (KPI) improvements, and partner closely with the site leadership teams while deploying the application of the Regal Rexnord Business System (RBS) which includes 80/20 methodologies and Continuous Improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence & Effective Problem Solving

  • Lead the Commercial Gearing operations team to deliver on Annual Operating Plan (AOP), monthly, quarterly, and annually.

  • Set and achieve short and long-term SQDCG and financial objectives by implementing a strategic vision that is simplified into actionable strategies and tactics. Direct activities across all plants, providing leadership to Plant Managers and their subordinate teams within Production, Safety, Quality, RBS, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain/Purchasing, Human Resources and Finance.

  • Ensure accountability and enable the predictability of the outcomes of each operating site. Determine root cause of delivery, quality or other issues quickly and confirm effective countermeasures are implemented to support.

  • Lead and drive the Regal Rexnord Business System which includes 80/20 and Continuous Improvement. for the Division. Drive a CI mindset, with clear future operating site vision, to significantly improve productivity and efficiency across all plants and drive employee engagement.

  • Establish and sustain strong production floor visual and daily management, GEMBA culture, problem solving methodologies and lean flow.

  • Develop controls and critically review results of operation in reference to planned objectives

P&L Leadership - Business Partner

  • Partner with VP/GM and BU leadership team to develop and communicate a future vision for the business on the overall strategy of the business.

  • Support the establishment of an X-matrix and drive policy deployment initiatives aligned to operations with urgency and a high say/do.

  • Responsible for synthesizing action plans, timelines and budgets for project and product goals and adjusting these plans accordingly to effectively respond to changing demands of the business.

Talent Management

  • Develop a high-performance team by engaging, coaching and developing team members, and by driving accountability and ownership at all levels. Build a team where all site leaders are top talent, with a strong say/do and continuous improvement mindset.

  • Serve as an advocate for our top talent, building strong succession plans to enable increased velocity. Be a champion of promoting diversity and inclusion in and across the organization.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum and Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably Engineering or other technical field) is required. Advanced degree is preferred.

  • 10+ years relevant work experience across Operations, Continuous Improvement or General Management positions, including 5+ years in leadership (including plant management) roles is required.

  • Multi-site management experience is also required.

  • Strong operational and financial acumen, executive presence, and the ability to lead multiple locations is required.

  • Demonstrated skill and experience with breaking down a strategic vision into actionable strategies and tactics that can be cascaded to every manufacturing facility is required. Knows what good looks like and demonstrates ability to coach and develop a high-performing leadership team.

  • Proven successful application of multiple CI tools: 80/20, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, Flow, Standard Work, Visual Management, Gemba, & Problem Solving is required.

  • Experience with leading change is required, including ability to anticipate and manage dynamic situations, understand impact, and ensure alignment of resources and costs through a sense of urgency, pride, and respect for people in all aspects of the business.

  • Proven experience in operational turnaround and plant rationalization, including successfully relocating product lines and assets to alternative manufacturing facilities is desired.
