Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field.
• Eight years of experience in executive communications, strategic communications, speech writing, journalism, public affairs or related fields are required.
• Three years of experience managing a communications team is required.
• Experience advising senior executives in complex organizational environments is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute communications strategies for the President, Executive Vice President and Provost, and other senior leaders.
• Oversee speeches, remarks, presentations, correspondence, talking points, video scripts, op-eds and other executive communications materials.
• Oversee maintenance of the President and EVP/Provost web presence and related channels.
• Support communications for SMU's strategic priorities and leadership engagements.
• Lead executive narrative development, thought leadership, and strategic messaging.
• Ensure consistent executive voice and positioning across channels; plan for major initiatives and events.
• Identify opportunities to elevate executive visibility and showcase institutional achievements.
• Collaborate with Academic Affairs and other leaders to align messages.
• Manage workflows, priorities, timelines and approvals; supervise the executive communications team.

Education

Bachelor's degree is required

Master's degree preferred
