Job summary

The City of Huntsville is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead and integrate the city’s transportation, drainage, and sewer infrastructure.

This appointed role provides executive oversight to the City Engineering, Water Pollution Control and Traffic Engineering departments and reports to the Mayor.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university recognised by regional accrediting agencies.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Lead and integrate planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the city’s transportation, drainage, and sewer infrastructure.

Senior Director of Engineering Position Overview:

The Senior Director of Engineering, whose qualifications are established by the Mayor, shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to the approval of the City Council as provided by law. The Senior Director of Engineering shall hold office for the term of the Mayor making the appointment. The Senior Director of Engineering shall be under the direct supervision and control of the Mayor. Generally, the Senior Director of Engineering shall be available to council members to respond to requests for information or questions related to matters under the general control of the Senior Director of Engineering which are pertinent to the performance of a council member's duties.

Responsibilities include leading and integrating the efforts of several departments engaged in planning, designing, constructing and maintaining the city's transportation, drainage, and sewer infrastructure. The Senior Director of Engineering provides executive-level oversight to the City Engineering, Water Pollution Control and Traffic Engineering departments.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; and thorough experience in administrative and supervisory work in civil engineering or public works administration; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
