Qualifications

Salary: $150,000.00 USD Annually - $250,000.00 USD Annually

Industry leading electrical products manufacturer in the West Chester, PA area is seeking a Sr Director of Engineering to oversee product innovation and modification processes. You will lead their product engineering team in the design, development, and execution of advanced mechanical products. In this role, you will bridge technical execution with strategic product vision, overseeing cross-functional teams spanning mechanical design, thermal management, enclosure engineering, and physical hardware architecture. You will drive the physical product roadmap from initial architecture through high-volume manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering Leadership: Direct and mentor multi-disciplinary product engineering teams (mechanical design, CAD/CAE, structural analysis, testing) through the full product development lifecycle (NPD/NPI).
• Technical Strategy & Architecture: Oversee mechanical architecture decisions, material selection, thermal dissipation, enclosure engineering, and precision mechanisms for next-generation physical hardware.
• Product Execution: Partner closely with Product Management and Operations to ensure mechanical product designs align with product requirements, cost targets (COGS), schedule, and quality benchmarks.
• Design for Excellence (DFX): Enforce robust Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), Serviceability, and Reliability (DFR) practices to streamline transitioning designs to manufacturing partners.
• Compliance & Standards: Ensure product compliance with relevant regulatory standards (e.g., UL, IP enclosure ratings, shock/vibration, RoHS, ISO) and physical safety requirements.
• Resource & Budget Management: Manage departmental budgets, engineering tooling, prototype lab equipment, resource allocation, and external vendor/partner relationships.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related field; Master’s (MSME) or MBA preferred.
• Experience: 10+ years in mechanical product design with at least 3–5 years in a managerial or direct leadership capacity.
• Technical Expertise: Proven background taking complex mechanical products, physical assemblies, and consumer or industrial hardware from concept to mass production.
• Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of 3D CAD product modeling (SolidWorks/Creo), FEA/CFD analysis, injection-molded plastics, sheet metal enclosures, precision mechanisms, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Manufacturing Experience: Direct experience working with domestic and international contract manufacturers (CMs), custom tooling vendors, component sourcing, and supply chains.
• Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to build, retain, and inspire high-performing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
