Job summary

The City of New York’s Bureau of Audit seeks a Director of Audit Strategy, reporting to the Deputy Comptroller for Audit. The role provides strategic guidance on complex audit and investigative matters, coordinating with City agencies and counsel to advance high-priority initiatives.

The selected candidate will help shape scope, communications, and execution of major audit programs, ensuring rigorous analysis and clear reporting to leadership and oversight bodies.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• Four years of recent full-time responsible legal experience after admission to any bar.
• At least 18 months supervising other attorneys in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal advisor to the Deputy Comptroller on complex, sensitive, high-priority audit and investigative matters.
• Draft, review, and coordinate formal requests for information, executive summaries, investigative reports, and high-level memoranda.
• Assist audit teams in determining appropriate audit scopes, objectives, and strategies.
• Coordinate with agency counsel and others regarding confidentiality, information-sharing, and document handling.
• Facilitate high-level communications between the Bureau of Audit and City agencies, legal counsel, and other entities.
• Review significant audit findings and materials to ensure clarity and focus on critical issues.
