Job summary

Ligonier Ministries in Sanford, FL seeks a seasoned Senior Director of Finance & Accounting to lead finance, accounting, and reporting, ensuring GAAP compliance and strong internal controls. This role partners with executives and the Board to guide strategic planning, budgeting, and performance analysis while advancing governance and donor stewardship.

Qualifications

• Significant, progressive leadership experience in finance and accounting.
• Proven experience in nonprofit financial management.
• CPA strongly preferred; MBA or related advanced degree a plus.
• Experience working with Boards and Finance/Audit Committees.
• Strength in financial systems improvement and process optimization.
• Analytical thinking, sound judgment, and clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic financial leadership across finance, accounting, and reporting functions.
• Partner with executive leadership to support strategic planning and key decisions.
• Deliver clear, actionable financial insight aligned with ministry priorities.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Develop financial models, cash flow projections, and scenario analyses.
• Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
• Oversee accounting operations including general ledger, payroll, AP/AR, and investments.
• Ensure GAAP and nonprofit financial standards compliance.
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and safeguards.
• Prepare and present financial reports to leadership and Board committees.
• Lead external audit coordination and ensure reporting transparency.
• Strengthen governance practices and accountability.
• Enhance financial systems, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiencies.
• Implement process improvements that increase accuracy, automation, and visibility.
• Build, coach, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
