Job summary

Democracy Forward Foundation seeks a Senior Director of Compliance to lead the organization’s compliance function, reporting to the General Counsel. The role involves strategic vision and hands‑on execution in a context that includes 501(c)(3) and (c)(4) governance, employment law, ethics, and grant management.

The position is full‑time with a hybrid work model; in‑office presence is expected regularly in Washington, DC, with remote eligibility for U.S. candidates and occasional travel to DC.

Qualifications

• At least 12-15+ years of compliance experience in the nonprofit sector.
• Strong project management and CRM familiarity.
• Deep knowledge of federal and state employment and nonprofit law; governance best practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee compliance with 501(c)(3)/(c)(4) requirements and policy development.
• Maintain compliance calendar and training materials; ensure staff training on changes.
• Support internal controls, audits, and vendor due diligence.
