General Summary:

The Senior Director, Medical Information sets the strategic vision of Global Medical Information (GMI). This position oversees a team of individuals (internal staff and vendors), systems and processes responsible for providing compliant medical information services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Defines and drives the vision of the GMI team (including global medical information services, global medical portal and global, US and International promotional/medical review fact-checking) to achieve the highest-level service and customer satisfaction (internally and externally)
  • Establishes the strategy for the GMI team and creates department goals and objectives that align with the Global Medical strategy while accounting for corporate impact
  • Oversees all GMI processes and/or systems to facilitate attainment of GMI department goals
  • Collaborates with GMI staff, GMA teams, DTE, Legal, Regulatory and Compliance partners to ensure all GMI processes and/or systems are compliant and audit ready.
  • Reviews and approves draft GMI processes and/or vendor processes and/or systems. Proactively monitors systems/processes and identifies areas for improvement, simplification or synergy
  • Works with team members to develop/maintain disease and brand focused scientificplatforms that outline core scientific statements/messages and identifies data/communication gaps.
  • Lead team to plan, communicate and execute the assigned brand or disease medical communication plan; ensure consistency across plans but flexibility based on specific needs of each plan
  • Oversee and provide direction to the team on the development and execution of the strategic publication plan and ensure compliance with good publication practices and obtain approval of the plan by senior management.
  • Manages departmental project performance and implements initiatives to drive GMI organizational excellence. Solicits regulator customer and stakeholder feedback on GMI systems and/or processes.
  • Delivers medical information services that are practical, scalable, reusable, strategic and are aligned to industry standards and best practices
  • Drives and implements technology solutions in close partnership with DTE to improve efficiencies and enhance the work the team
  • Leads and builds a high performing team: manages internal staff and/or vendors to achieve GMI departmental objectives and provides periodic progress reports to Medical Affairs management which includes both challenges and achievements
  • As a people manager in the organization, may have financial accountabilities and human resource responsibilities for assigned staff
  • Tracks departmental key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess and/or system performance and recommends adjustments to address KPI deficiencies
  • Forecast GMI spend and manages budgets to achieve GMI departmental goals and objectives

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated success in department strategic planning; developing and building high performing teams; coaching/developing direct reports and vendors; project planning; forecasting and budget management
  • Ability to lead a team of 15+ team members to work collaboratively in a dynamic, team-based matrix environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to shape the opinions of and negotiate with senior leaders
  • Ability to think broadly about medical communications and the compliance and/or legal impact of such communications
  • In-depth knowledge of ICMJE, good publication practices and journal review/selection criteria
  • Ability to develop strong collaborative relationships with internal colleagues
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the stages of drug development and the available corporate and public resources used to construct a medical information response
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant (area-specific) legislation or regulatory guidance governing the provision of medical information and applicable data privacy legislation
  • Analytical skills and an ability to synthesize data sets and study summaries into meaningful oral or written communication materials
  • Extensive experience in launch planning and execution for medical information teams
  • Ability to produce effective management project briefings to senior staff
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels
  • Ability and initiative to solve problems
  • Ability to ask questions, constantly learn, adapt, evolve

Required Education Level:

  • Advanced degree in a health-related science MD, PharmD, PhD or JD.

Required Experience:

  • Requires 12+ years of experience working in Medical Information in the biotech/pharma industry, with a minimum of 5 years in a management/supervisory role
  • Leading Medical Information team(s) for 8+ years

Pay Range:

$236,000 - $353,900

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
