Job summary

District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) is seeking a Senior Director of Literacy and Humanities to lead OTL efforts and coordinate across Content & Curriculum teams. You will guide curriculum resources, professional development, and school supports to advance equity and accelerate student outcomes.

This leadership role requires deep experience in education, data-driven program design, and collaborative management of directors and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5–7 years of related work experience in education.
• Master’s degree in education is highly preferred.
• Experience using qualitative and quantitative data to design and evaluate programs.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines; multitask and manage competing projects.
• Experience creating and managing systems to collect and monitor program data and meet benchmarks.
• Ability to learn quickly, work in a fast-paced environment, and handle multiple priorities.
• Outstanding interpersonal, teamwork, and management skills.
• Strong equity focus and inclusion best practices driving work outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Defines the connection between OTL priorities and Content & Curriculum division workstreams as it relates to Literacy and Humanities.
• Supports Chief in setting goals and benchmarks; monitors progress and assists directors.
• Stays informed on projects and policy changes; advises leadership and adjusts approach as needed.
• Leads content directors within Literacy and Humanities and coordinates with other teams for alignment.
• Oversees professional development opportunities and school-based supports to meet needs and raise instruction quality.
• Ensures guidance and resources align with district priorities and equity goals.
• Creates detailed timelines and tracks progress using data, tools, and reporting.
• Manages data analysis and presentation for senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Leads a team including a manager and six directors to implement PD, assessments, and curriculum design.
