Job summary

MKS Instruments, Inc. is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead the Flow BU's engineering development team and drive next‑generation gas delivery and flow control products for semiconductor and related markets.

You will partner with Operations, Quality, Product Marketing, Sales, and customers to align technical strategy with business goals and deliver innovative solutions. Reporting to the Flow BU General Manager, you will shape the technology roadmap and mentor a diverse engineering

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of cross-functional management experience in a product development environment, with strong understanding of manufacturing, gas flow, pressure control, and electrical engineering principles and fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of Engineering management, project management, product development processes, problem-solving methodologies, and DFMEA, as well as key Reliability processes.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and change management.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, in combination with excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience and success in mentoring engineering managers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily workflow and management of the mechanical and electronics engineering development team, including administration of the engineering budget.
  • Establish, communicate, and implement policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent execution of engineering activities.
  • Direct engineering management in the design, modification, and evaluation of all phases of a specific product or group of products from product definition through release/production.
  • Ensure that development projects are appropriately resourced, and completed in an efficient manner, within budget and in a timely fashion.
  • Act as the central engineering resource collaborating with Product Marketing, project management, Operations, Quality and Reliability, Sales, and Service, as products move through development and into production.
  • Formulate, direct and execute value engineering activities, and enable long term plans for product cost control/profitability.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies & trends in engineering and development related to our industry.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement new technologies and systems to improve organizational efficiency, processes, and decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain a technology/R&D roadmap and ensure alignment with our customers’ future roadmap/vision.
  • Interact with customers to lead technical engagements on both new and existing products and technologies.

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As a Senior Director of Engineering at the MKS Flow BU, you will partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Product Marketing, Sales, and Customers to develop next generation products/technologies and support customers to solve their most difficult problems. In this role, you will report to the Flow Business Unit General Manager. We are looking for an exceptional Senior Director of Engineering to join our innovative Engineering Development Team at MKS, Inc. We push the boundaries of technology to develop a wide range of Mass Flow Control products that address the needs of Semiconductor, Industrial Scientific, and Life and Health markets. In this position, you will build, lead, and develop groups that are developing innovative next-generation gas delivery and flow control products. You will also be responsible for contributing to the development, communication, and execution of the Flow BU strategic growth initiatives.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Pay Range: $230,450 - 384,000 USD Annual per year. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

  • Bonus: This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS (or as applicable).
