Job summary

SMART (Schools, Mentoring and Resource Team) is seeking a Senior Director of Development & Communications to design, implement, and manage all fundraising and communications efforts in SF. You will lead a team, oversee grants and donor engagement, and align fundraising with SMART’s mission for education equity.

The role requires strategic thinking, strong communication, and a proven track record in fundraising leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 7+ years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience.
• 3+ years managing staff and building teams.
• Proven success sourcing, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors.
• Experience designing, executing, and tracking fundraising plans.
• Strong experience with development operations and CRM systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to engage diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and management of fundraising and communications efforts.
• Oversee grant strategy, proposals, and reporting.
• Oversee donor engagement strategies, campaigns, and events.
• Coordinate with Program Team to share information for funders and audiences.
• Manage donor database and reporting with Salesforce and related tools.
• Foster collaboration between Executive Director, Development, and Program teams.
• Lead strategic development plans and measure progress against goals.
