Hertner, Block & Bowser, Inc. is seeking an experienced Compliance Attorney to lead the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance and ethics program. The Senior Director will partner with executives and the Board on risk, policy, and regulatory matters, driving a hands-on, scalable program across a distributed organization.

The role requires a J.D. and 12–15 years of experience with strong leadership in large operations, plus familiarity with governance, risk, and compliance technology.

Qualifications

  • J.D. or relevant advanced degree; J.D. strongly preferred.
  • 12-15 years of compliance, regulatory, or legal experience, including 5+ years in senior leadership.
  • Experience in large manufacturing, construction or distribution organizations preferred.
  • Active state bar membership if applicable; CCEP or similar certification preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence senior leadership, manage risk, and operate across decentralized organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and enhance the enterprise-wide compliance program (policies, training, monitoring, reporting).
  • Lead the compliance and ethics program (policies, training, investigations, reporting).
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify emerging risks, implement mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain the Code of Conduct and key policies addressing anti-corruption, antitrust, conflicts of interest, government contracting, trade compliance, data privacy, etc.
  • Prepare and present regular compliance reports to the Chief Legal Officer, leadership, and the Board, including metrics.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and oversee responses to inquiries, audits, and enforcement matters.
  • Provide compliance reporting to executive leadership and the Board.
  • Oversee third-party due diligence, anti-corruption compliance, and supply chain requirements.
  • Promote a consistent culture of compliance across a geographically distributed organization.

Job description

We are working with a large publicly traded Company that has a need for an experienced Compliance Attorney.

The Senior Director, Compliance leads the Company's enterprise-wide compliance and ethics program, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations while supporting business objectives and a culture of integrity.

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the role partners with executive and functional leaders across the organization and advises senior leadership and the Board on compliance risks and regulatory matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and enhance the Company's enterprise-wide compliance program, including policies, training, monitoring, and reporting. (Candidate's should have experience building programs from the ground up and be a one person team - very hands on with a lot of experience)
  • Lead the Company's compliance and ethics program, including policies, training, monitoring, investigations, and reporting.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments, identify emerging risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain the Code of Conduct and key policies addressing anti-corruption, antitrust, conflicts of interest, government contracting, trade compliance, data privacy, and related matters.
  • Prepare and/or present regular compliance reports to the Chief Legal Officer, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors (or applicable Board committee), including metrics on program effectiveness, open investigations, and emerging risk areas.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and oversee responses to government inquiries, audits, examinations, and enforcement matters.
  • Provide compliance reporting to executive leadership and the Board.
  • Oversee third-party due diligence, anti-corruption compliance, and supply chain requirements, including responsible sourcing, sanctions, and trade compliance.
  • Promote a consistent culture of compliance and accountability across a geographically distributed organization.
Qualifications
  • J.D. or relevant advanced degree; J.D. strongly preferred.
  • 12-15 years of compliance, regulatory, or legal experience, including 5+ years in senior compliance leadership.
  • EXPERIENCE IN LARGE MANUFACTURING, CONSTRUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION ORGANIZATIONS preferred.
  • Active state bar membership if applicable; CCEP or similar certification preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence senior leadership, manage risk, and operate across decentralized organizations.
  • Experience with compliance technology, case management, monitoring, reporting, and analytics tools.
