Job description

Note: This is a remote role but candidates must be based in SCAL.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing public relations and media relations to promote and protect Kaiser Permanente's brand image and reputation. It involves developing PR and communication strategies, serving as the primary PR liaison and expert, providing guidance on PR issues, acting as an organizational spokesperson, and managing responses to mitigate negative press. Additionally, the role includes serving as a thought leader for organization-wide initiatives, overseeing crisis communication, establishing relationships with media and community stakeholders, and executing external positioning strategies for senior leaders.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Model and promote continuous learning; oversee recruitment, development, and motivation of teams; stay current with industry trends; ensure performance management aligns with business needs.
  2. Manage operations of multiple units by analyzing needs, resources, and costs; translate business strategies into actionable plans; ensure products/services meet customer expectations; serve as a trusted advisor to leadership.
  3. Oversee complex communication activities; manage vendor relationships; review and approve communication efforts; ensure alignment with KP standards and positive reputation.
  4. Develop strategic communication plans by consulting with stakeholders; analyze data; align plans with organizational strategy; manage budgets and resources; influence stakeholders.
  5. Implement communication efforts; assess effectiveness; monitor KPIs; ensure timely and within-budget execution; resolve issues during implementation.
  6. Manage communications across functions; create and review content; oversee production; ensure consistency with brand and editorial guidelines.
  7. Lead complex projects; manage stakeholders; develop project plans; oversee schedules, resources, financials, and deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of experience in Media Relations or Public Relations.
  • At least 4 years managing operational or project budgets.
  • At least 4 years supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Humanities, Business, Social Science, or related field, with a minimum of 12 years of related experience. Equivalent work experience may substitute for the degree.
