Job summary

King County's Department of Community and Human Services seeks a seasoned Division Director for Behavioral Health and Recovery to lead a 200-person team and oversee a $465 million budget, advancing equitable behavioral health services across the region.

The role requires strategic vision, strong partnerships with elected officials and providers, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments while fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture.

Qualifications

• Experience directing large, complex public health and human services operations.
• Executive leadership in behavioral health crisis systems or large direct operations.
• Proven budget management, forecasting, and funder engagement.
• Advanced knowledge of Medicaid and public funding.
• Experience using performance data to drive decisions and accountability.
• Ability to work with diverse communities and address inequities.
• Strong communication with executive leadership, elected officials, funders, and staff.
• Leadership through change with accountability and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear vision and strategic direction for BHRD programs.
• Oversee contracted behavioral health providers and contract management.
• Embed Equity, Racial and Social Justice into policies and operations.
• Use analytics to interpret performance data to plan and fund services.
• Collaborate across departments to align priorities and improve care.
• Lead and develop a high-performing workforce of 200+ staff.
• Represent the division with executives, boards, and community stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
