Job description

The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) is currently seeking a Senior Director, Assessment Integrity to join our team. In this role, the Senior Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of assessment integrity activities, including the development of policies and the review, investigation, and resolution of suspected assessment misconduct. As an ABIM board-certified physician, this individual brings clinical expertise and professional credibility to complex and sensitive matters involving diplomates and candidates.

Reporting to the SVP, Academic & Medical Affairs, the Senior Director, Assessment Integrity is responsible for the following:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute strategies to identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks to assessment integrity while advising leadership on emerging trends and vulnerabilities.
  • Policy Development & Governance: Lead the creation, refinement, and consistent application of assessment integrity policies, ensuring fairness and alignment across stakeholders and collaborating with peer organizations to identify best practices.
  • Case Review & Investigations: Oversee and conduct investigations into suspected misconduct using forensic and psychometric data, including interviews and evidence analysis, and recommend case outcomes based on established policies.
  • Psychometric Collaboration: Partner with psychometric and assessment security experts within a collaborative cross-functional team to interpret complex analytical findings and translate them into actionable insights that support organizational decision-making, serving as the lead subject matter expert on physician certification, policy engagement, and physician impact.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate clearly and professionally with candidates, diplomates, and internal stakeholders regarding processes, findings, and outcomes, while supporting educational initiatives around integrity expectations.
  • Operational Leadership: Manage day-to-day assessment integrity operations, ensuring cross-departmental alignment and contributing to broader organizational strategy as part of the leadership team.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced physician leader with a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience, including leadership experience in medical education, clinical practice, or a healthcare administrative setting. The ideal candidate must be board certified by ABIM in internal medicine and/or a subspecialty and actively participating in Maintenance of Certification (MOC), with current clinical practice experience strongly preferred. They will demonstrate a proven ability to manage complex and sensitive matters with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion.
