Job summary

The Allen Institute seeks an Associate Director to lead Assay Development and Process Engineering, building scalable, high-information content assays for large-scale data pipelines in brain research. You will work with scientists, engineers, and computational experts to innovate, validate, and implement end-to-end workflows that enable robust, reproducible datasets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, molecular biology, neuroscience, or related field.
• 10+ years of assay pipeline engineering and related work, with at least 3 years in leadership.
• Strong background in industry-level molecular assays, including single-cell and spatial assays.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers and scientists.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategic plans for assay development and process engineering.
• Lead design, integration, validation and implementation of molecular, microscopy and software components.
• Drive engineering best practices and standards across assay pipelines.
• Oversee design, development, and delivery of pipeline capabilities for scientists.
• Ensure data integrity, governance, and large-scale dataset workflows.
