Job summary

CampusEvolve is seeking a Director of AI Engineering to build Pathways, an AI-native guide helping learners pursue education, careers, and economic security. This senior role is ~80% hands-on and will lead three engineers, working closely with the Founder/CEO, CTO, and a product manager.

You will ship mobile-first AI experiences, define the team’s development lifecycle for agents, ensure data integrity, privacy, observability, and cost control, and work directly with end users more than most

Qualifications

• Senior leadership role overseeing AI engineering for Pathways.
• Lead three full-time engineers and collaborate with Founder/CEO, CTO, and product manager.
• Deliver AI-native features with safety and measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Ship mobile-first AI experiences that convert learner problems into actionable steps.
• Define the team's agentic development lifecycle and coach engineers in using coding agents.
• Connect product analytics, AI evaluation, synthetic tests, user research, and real task outcomes to fast release decisions.
• Create reusable patterns for conversations, planning, resources, and actions for new personas and partners.
• Own architecture, data/state integrity, test automation, observability, cloud cost, and release quality.
• Architect identity and access for learners, advisors, and partner institutions with privacy-preserving sign-in and RBAC.
• Be the technical voice with funders and state agencies, addressing safety and outcomes.
