Job summary

The University of Maryland Extension (UME) seeks an Assistant Director and Program Leader for 4-H Youth Development to provide statewide leadership and strategic direction. The role collaborates with faculty, staff, volunteers, youth, and stakeholders to align 4-H priorities with UME and AGNR while guiding program development and evaluation.

Qualifications

• Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in youth development or a closely related field.
• At least one graduate degree; preferably a doctorate, in youth development, education, or related.
• Significant leadership experience in a large youth development organization.
• Understanding of Land Grant mission and 4-H Youth Development.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to advocate for 4-H and engage diverse audiences.
• Ability to motivate, lead, and supervise faculty and staff administratively.
• Ability to develop partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and travel as needed.
• Criminal History Check required; U.S. work eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Lead statewide 4-H Youth Development programs and set strategic direction.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching for faculty; plan and evaluate programs.
• Lead long-range planning, reporting, PD, and grant management.
• Secure funding and manage extramural funds for 4-H initiatives.
• Develop teamwork among state and county faculty, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
• Mentor faculty; review Extension Plans and performance evaluations.
• Recruit, mentor, and evaluate 4-H faculty; supervise state staff and Foundation staff.
• Provide annual reports for federal and internal requirements.
• Collaborate with UME Programs and colleges to build partnerships and interdisciplinary programs.
• Oversee statewide program evaluation and impact assessments.
